| Job interviews: dress code, appearance issues etc. | | Published by: smith 2010-03-18 |
Greetings,
I've been giving the idea of teaching in Japan some thought for years now but only recently did I find myself in a position to possibly do so.
I've checked out the majors - GEOS, AEON and NOVA - and decided I might apply for a job with NOVA. Only problem is, I'm not sure if I might be acceptable.
See, a friend of mine who worked in Japan told me that these schools tend to be rather picky about their teachers' physical appearance, especially during the initial interview. He was turned down by AEON and NOVA, but following a two month exchange programme (Iwaki), he was able to come back to Japan on a working holiday, trading in his past experience and a good reference for work.
According to him, the majors are a pain when it comes to choosing candidates - it's often more a matter of whether or not you look the part than being able to do the job (or at least learn it quickly). Of course, it might just be bitterness over being rejected.
Either way, I come seeking opinions. Just how strict are NOVA, AEON and GEOS when it comes to dress code, appearance and the like?
I'd like you folks to be as precise as possible, leaving no stones unturned. Don't assume anything and give it to me straight.
What kind of aggressive tropical freshwater fish go together? I want a ghost fish, African cichlids etc?
