  • When applying for detail positions, your resume needs to show attention to detail. Your resume has some capitalized beginnings, some non-capitalized. When you describe your work functions, you have some in the present tense, some in the past tense. Also, when benchmarking skills, use normal benchmarks. You state you type over 42 words a minute, I take this to mean you type 43, whereas if you use the normal benchmark of: I type over 40 words a minute, it simply states that I have the necessary typing skills. ( another note here, you are competing against 60-70 wpm typers, it would be a plus to raise that skill) The culmination of the tense issues, capitalization issues, and possibly mistyped words per minute lead to the impression that the resume was not thought out and prepared, but thrown together in an afternoon, which is not what an employer will be looking for in an assistant. I would reprepare the resume, and then look at it as if you were the first person in the company who decides which resumes move to the next level...would you pass this resume to your boss. If not, then it is not ready. When you can look at it with a critical eye, and truly say to yourself you would recommend this resume to your company, then try again. (Also, for administrative, employers like to see applicants as well, you might expand to checkinglocal newspapers rather than expecting the internet to drop one in your lap) I don't want to sound harsh, but these are the things I think you need to do if you truly want to find something quickly. Good luck

  • Okay, I'll be honest. Your experience wouldn't immediately jump out at me to hire you. You've only had 2 jobs, each for only around one year. Not a lot of experience.

    A few recommendations:

Hook up with a temp agency. Some of your experience will help in getting placed as a temp at different companies. That will help you learn more.

Second, try other websites like CareerBuilder or other sites. Don't limit yourself to just one website.

Get the newspaper, look to see who is hiring, and send out your resume. Look online at the different employers in your area. A lot of them might have a section for job openings.

    Good luck.
