How can I find info on a mid-1980's Texas civil lawsuit?
Published by: admin 2010-03-18
  • I wish to find out if a person in the mid-1980's in Texas (most likely in the Houston area) was awarded a substantial sum of money in a civil lawsuit. All I know is the person's full name and approximate age. I know that lawsuits can go on for years and years, so it might have started in the mid-1980's and taken a while to be decided. I don't even know for sure if there ever was a civil law suit. I am quite a distance from Texas and would like to find this out rather quickly. Obviously (it need not be said, but just to be clear), I would only want to use squeaky clean, completely ethical and legal means to find out this information. Thank you in advance.

  • I am receptive towards privately emailing the researcher additional information which should not be revealed to anyone and most especially not placed on the internet where the public could see it. If the researcher is competent, which I gather is a given here at google answers, then the researcher's "best shot" at finding something based on the additional information would be okay. Here is the information I could provide concerning the person who may have received a cash settlement in a civil lawsuit around the mid to late 1980's: 1) full name; 2) social security number; 3) exact birth date; 4) a rough guess as to the monetary amount of the cash award; 5) a guess as to the nature of the lawsuit. Similarly, it would be unethical for the result of the search to be posted publicly, so I would want the researcher's find, if there is one, to be emailed privately to me rather than published on the internet where everyone could see it. It would be okay to publish in the public "answer" the general nature of the answer, but it would be absolutely not be okay to show the name of the person or any information of that personal nature. Please let me know how to proceed. I am also receptive to paying more, perhaps as a tip, to get a really thoroughly researched answer.

  • The best places to start searching would be online court records and newspaper records (substantial court awards often receive press coverage). There is no guarantee of finding anything, but one never knows until one looks! What do you want from a Google Answers researcher? I can steer you towards some resources you can use to conduct your own searches, but be forewarned -- some of these are difficult to wade through, and others require subscription access (sometiems available at no cost through public libraries). Alternatively, I can do some searching for you and let you know what I find. To do this, though (1) I would need more information on the case, especially the names of the parties involved, and the nature of the lawsuit, and (2) I can look, but my answer may well be something like "sorry...nothing turned up on this particular case". This second point is important -- there's no way of knowing in advance how much (if any) information is available in online records. I'll certainly put in a good effort, but it's impossible to guarantee what might turn up. Let me know what you think, pafalafa-ga

  • Thanks for getting back to me. I don't Google Answers is the right forum for you. All research is posted right here in this (very public) forum. There is no mechanism for you and I to communicate privately by email, or any other means. You may need to hire someone privately to do this research for you. I can't see how to carry out an essentially private task here at Google Answers. Best of luck... paf
