Don't give a toss about jobs or careers =(?
Published by: anonym 2010-03-15
  • I'm 19 years old and I literally don't care about climbing the career ladder or jobs/work in particular. No I'm not lazy its just, I feel like work takes a huge chunk of your life (40 years Ouch) because I did have a part time job and it it was horrible. I felt major boredom, stress and I felt like I wasted my time. I feel like, "How the heck am I'm going to survive to retirment?" and by then the best years of your life are gone because of work. Plus the stress of superannuation for retirment and job loss that can result of losing your home.

I get soooo much fullfilment doing all the things I like to do such as painting, drawing reading, going out, anime, internet, videogames and stuff like that. And if you tell me "you will be bored if you are not working" I say thats bullshit because I'm never bored when not working, (No, really) plus work = boredom. I feel its quite sad that people are bored when not working because how are they going to survive retirment?

Anyway do you agree with me or what is your opinion? thanks

  • I'm 23 and I totally understand where you're coming from. I had several part time horrible jobs (never work at a Denny's) in high school/college and thought 'wow, i hate my life.' Now I have a job I love (don't get me wrong, certain days I still really don't want to go) and the idea of working for at least the next 40 years doesn't depress me the way it use to. I really think it's just a matter of finding something you really enjoy doing. Side note: I am a person who literally can lay around doing almost nothing all day and not get bored.

  • Well, unless you are independently wealthy, just how do you expect to continue down this path?

Eventually whomever is supporting you will either, tire of it, or die and leave you homeless and penniless.

And I hate to break it to you, but unless you hit the lottery, not wanting to work and "climb ladders" there will be no way you don't have to work past 59, well unless you are independently wealthy to begin with. By the time you are 59, the retirement age will be 80, at least.

So, you are faced with two choices, being a drain on someone or society, or already being rich.

    Which are you?

And if you aren't rich, you will never be if you don't work.

You can have anything you put your mind to, IF you are willing to work for it.

The value of work is not just in a paycheck or "getting to retirement", the value is in being proud of yourself for accomplishing life.

Enjoy your poverty-be it emotional or financial.

  • Yes you have a valid point coming from a 19 yr. old. The problem is, it is all about you and not any one else. So, maybe what you seek is where can you make a difference in the world today? Just making a difference offers job opportunities that appears to be play and with a pay check to boot. Play can be work, work can be play. It is how you want to view whatever it is you are doing. As long as the depth of your being is continually being filled life is good. I look at life as a game. It just happens to be me playing in that game, like video. And I love to win my game.

  • Hey, we're in the same boat. Let's backpack across the country together. We can get money by street performing. I know how to play guitar, and I'm sure you can learn to juggle. And at night, we can snuggle (in a complete platonic way) for warmth! It'll be great! :)

  • What kind of aggressive tropical freshwater fish go together? I want a ghost fish, African cichlids etc?
